In a slow cooker, whisk together sugar and cocoa. Add coffee, cream and vanilla and whisk until smooth. Place pears in slow cooker; cover and cook on LOW for 4 hours or until pears are tender.
Place pear quarters in shallow bowls and ladle sauce over top. Top with ice cream and sprinkle with chocolate to serve.
Oven Variation: Place pears in a large baking dish and pour mocha mixture over top. Cover and bake in preheated 400°F (200°C) oven for about 40 minutes or until tender when pierced with a knife.
Whipped Cream Option: Omit ice cream and top with whipped cream instead.
