Everyone loves a good grilled cheese sandwich, right? Correct. Looking to take your grilled cheese sandwich up a notch? Perfect. Made with fresh, creamy Ontario Brie cheese, this Grilled Fig and Brie Sandwich recipe is perfect for those of you who would like a more savoury grilled cheese sandwich. Brie and figs are a match made in heaven, the creamy, earthy undertones of the brie are perfectly paired with the intensified sweetness of the fig jam, add some fresh Italian or French bread, and you’ve got yourself a sandwich you won’t forget. Whether you enjoy this as a sandwich or slice it into finger size pieces for an appetizer, a glass of Ontario white wine will be the perfect match for it!

Ingredients

Method

Step 1

Lay 4 slices of the bread on work surface and spread with fig jam. Divide brie among bread. Top with fig slices and basil. Top with remaining bread slices and spread top of bread with half of the butter.


Step 2

Place sandwich butter side down on greased grill over medium heat. Spread bread tops with remaining butter. Close lid and grill for about 3 minutes or until crisp and grilled marked.
 

Step 3

Turn over and grill for about 3 minutes or until cheese is melted and bread is crisp. Let cool slightly before serving.
 

Prosciutto Variation:

Add 2 slices of prosciutto to each sandwich before closing to grill.
